People often worry about the complicated costs involved in safaris and local guiding - with good reason! In terms of local trips mentioned on the "Map/Sites" page, I would estimate that, based on 4 people, Jonathan's inclusive price would be between £20 to £25 per person per trip, depending on numbers [see below]. This covers everything - transport, fuel, guiding fees, etc. The only addition to this locally would be entrance to Arabuko Sokoke Forest [20 USD per person at 2013 prices]. Do check prices with Jonathan first though. Exchange rates, petrol prices etc could affect his rates in future. Obviously, the less number of people there are in a group, the more it will cost per head for local trips. As a guideline, I would suggest the following
One person - £ 55
Two - £ 75 total
Three - £ 90 total
Four - £100 total
Safari prices are more difficult in view of the vast difference in accommodation prices. Lodges like Voi, Ngulia and Shimba Hills will be around 240 USD per couple for one night. An "up-market" tented camp like Tarhi will be around 170 USD.
Jonathan is happy to provide a quote without commitment. His own costs for a safari have to cover his overnight accommodation, fuel, vehicle entry fees, food, guiding fees etc. As an example, for four people, he would charge in the region of £220 for a 2 day trip from Watamu to Tsavo East, not including your accommodation or your Park entry fees [65 USD per person per 24 hours]. Fuel is a large part of that so there wouldn't be much of a reduction if there were only two people. The main thing to remember is that you/your group have exclusive use of the vehicle, unless you have made arrangements to share costs with others.
